Bedroom Floor
When One Direction (1D) was formed on the X Factor UK in 2010, they were an instant success. The boyband, consisting of Liam Payne, Zayn Malik, Harry Styles, Niall Horan, and Louis Tomlinson, finished in second place, but that wasn't the end of them. Their debut album, "Up All Night" was released in 2011 and the world went nuts. Overnight, the band became a worldwide success, akin to Beatlemania in the 1960s and Spicemania in the 1990s. Fans of the lads nicknamed themselves Directioners.
Their subsequent albums, "Take Me Home" (2012), "Midnight Memories" (2013), "Four" (2014), and "Made In the A.M." (2015), performed well on the charts and in sales: the One Direction 3D movie: "This Is Us," earned $68.5 million at the box office. The massive popularity of the group led to a merchandising Heaven: dolls, books, posters, backpacks, folders, calenders, and a plethora of other items were released. The group was everywhere.
The good times seemed like they would never end, until Zayn Malik's sudden departure from the group on March 25, 2015.
After fulfilling their five year-five album contract with Syco Records, the group announced that they would be embarking on a hiatus, during which each member would work on their solo material. The hiatus began in January 2016.
Zayn Malik's solo album "Mind of Mind" was released in 2016 and debuted at number 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 Charts. In 2017, Harry Styles released his self titled album, it hit number 2 on the Billboard Hot 200 Charts. In the fall of 2017, Niall Horan released his debut album, "Flicker." It, too, reaches number 1 on the Billboard Hot 200 Charts.
What about the other members of the group? Louis Tomlinson's released two singles, "Just Hold On" in 2016 and "Back to You", in 2017, the latter of which featured Bebe Rexha and will feature on his debit album, which is slotted to be released in 2017.
Liam Payne's "Strip That Down", featuring Quavo, "Get Low," featuring Zedd, and "Bedroom Floor" were released in 2017 all to massive success.
"Bedroom Floor," Liam's latest single is a sexy dance number that features the British hearthrob's impressive vocal chops. Regarding his upcoming debut album, Payne said, "It's very eclectic. It's more like my playlist album; my favorite playlist of songs that I have made over the past year. So, some slow jams, there's a couple of dance songs on there, with some R&B stuff. So there's a lot -- it's a lot of different stuff."
I was a massive fan of 1D when they were together. Zayn and Liam were my two favorites. As far as solo work goes, I was disappointed with Zayn's R&B efforts; he should stick with pop. I liked Harry's pop rock album, and was impressed with Niall's pop folk album. I have not heard Louis's solo work yet -- I know, I'm a bad Directioner -- but absolutely love Liam's work. I predict that Liam will end up the most successful of the lads. He has the voice, the looks, the moves, and his songs are catchy as hell. I lool forward to hearing more from the talented singer.
The music video for "Bedroom Floor," will premiere on November 6th.
